About

Hi there! I’m Claire. Welcome to Once Upon a Yarn. 🙂

I learned to crochet in the spring of 2011 from Crochet by Anne Akers Johnson. Although I taught myself, my mom was learning at the same time (from the same book) so I picked up some things from her. Then I found some YouTube crochet tutorials, which I hadn’t known existed, and that was really helpful – like a free crochet class.

The main reason I learned to crochet was to make dolls, doll clothes, and stuffed animals…which are still my main focus! When I discovered amigurumi, there was no turning back. I started blogging on October 20, 2012 because I wanted to share my crochet patterns with the world, and here we are now!

I’m a huge dork and am obsessed with fandom, particularly Harry Potter, The Lunar Chronicles (and anything by Marissa Meyer), Star Wars, and Fringe. I recently was introduced to the world of Comic Con by a friend, attending Rose City Comic Con 2016 dressed as a character from Fringe. I had so much fun that I went to Wizard World Comic Con soon after, and hope to attend many more conventions in the future! Above is a picture of my Bee and Puppycat cosplay, featuring my first handmade sweater. :}

I’ve been an avid reader my whole life, and I recently branched out into the world of book blogging. I’ve begun to post book reviews and writerly things on Once Upon a Yarn. My favorite authors are J. K. Rowling (of course), Marissa Meyer, John Green, and Marie Lu, and I’m always looking for book recommendations!

I’m also an English major in my sophomore year of college, which means I don’t have nearly enough time for all these fandom and craft-related things, yet here we are anyway. :}

Check out my FAQ if you’re wondering about anything blog-related! If you’d like to get in touch, please leave a comment or contact me here; I’d love to hear from you.

    Just found your blog and will be making some of the doll dresses. They look awesome! But your chick cosy was the best thing ever. Certainly put a smile on my face!

      🙂 Thank you, Frannaz! I just love crocheting things for guinea pigs and chickens – glad it made you smile. (I’d love to see pictures if you make some doll dresses!)

      I’m so glad you like the pattern, Happy Cheeseburger! I’d love to see a picture when you finish BB-8. Let me know if you run into any problems along the way, and I’d be happy to help. I, too, am rather obsessed with BB-8; he’s adorable! Have fun! 😀
